A New Way to Receive Child Support

October 23, 2007 / by blogmom

I got a notice saying that...and I quote...

"In Wisconsin, support payments are now issued in an electronic form -- by direct deposit or by a special VISA debit card. Because you have not signed up for direct deposit, you have been enrolled in Wisconsin's Support Collections VISA Debit Card Program."

I can no longer call it a child support check because it's not a check anymore. I like this idea.

All future payments that will be added right to the child support debit card. I am supose to get one in a few days! One of the reason's why they are doing this, is because of people like me that cash it at a check cashing place (because we owe money to the bank) and don't get the full sum on the check because the check cashing places charge their percentage for cashing it there.

The cool thing is that once my card is activated, I can use it right away for purchases on whatever is needed. I can also use the card to get cash from any ATM machine!

I think this might work better because I will be able to keep better track of each payment that is being made by the ex (I keep the check stubs in a small folder with the receipts), plus, it will prevent fraud a bit better as well. No more having to wait for it to come in the mail, or worrying that the post office lost it, etc.

The funny thing, is that this child support debit card is the only one I own! hehehe...

A debit Visa for child support?? Is that gonna be a good thing? If you need that money for rent/mortgage or car note, what do you do?? Just curious.

What you do, is swipe the card at any local ATM machine like you would a regular debit card and you can take money out that way. Or go to one of the banks the card was originally issued from. For example: the bank that issued my card is JP Morgan Chase bank.[SMILE]

Ohhhh.... I see... sounds great. I don't get child support checks anymore, but when I did... I hated waiting for them (usually late, ya know) sigh...

I think that happens in any state to be honest. The post office is not a reliable source. It used to be our only choice back in the day, but now, I think delivering the money will finally be ontime...it's just the biological parent you have to wait on now.[GLARE]

That's awesome. I can't wait for mine to come. It will be so much simplier to keep track then just what I am doing now (keeping check stubs and receipts for cashing them).[SAD]

I waited until my child was 18 years old to divorce my first husband. Never had the experience of getting child support. And then... I am such a nice person that I paid my exhusband about several hundred dollars a month to keep him and our daughter living in the style they were accustomed to. That meant, she got what ever she wanted and he didn't have to work. Maybe nice isn't the word I should use... rather "stupid."[SAD]

I got the child support because my free insurance from the government requested that I did that. I guess a requirement or something. Otherwise, the less I saw of the ex, the better. But holy crud woman! You shouldn't of had to pay a damn thing to him...now your daughter on the other hand is a different story. he should of been owing you money throughout the time you had her while she was growing up. But it's over now...but never regret it...cause it would of never made you the person that you are today. We live and learn and if we haven't learned from our mistakes, then we aren't truely living.....I think I just made up another quote again. lol!

Well.... daughter had a really good life. She went to a private high school and drove a Volvo and didn't have to have a after school job like her friends. And now... she'll tell me how tough life was for her. But, I still love her. As for the ex... I don't see him anymore and plan to keep it that way. Also, he has a job since he remarried. I don't think the new wife lets him stay at home while she works.[ROLLEYES][LOL][LOL][LOL][TONGUE]

Good! It's about time someone whipped his behind for all the time he spent on it! lol!

Complaining about how tough life is? Hell, I still do that myself sometimes. lol! But I guess life is what you make right? lol![LOL]
