EGADS! I had one of those IEP evaluation meetings with the teachers, psychologist, school social worker, etc. All that paperwork and everything took about 3 hours. So instead of my son taking his school bus home, he had to come home with me (it takes an hour in a half taking two city buses to get home from his school).
The school is leaning more towards Autism in my son. Now he is still under the Pervasive Developmental Disorder category, but that category has several other sub-categories that he can also fall under. However, what the school has viewed and evaluated, is that they think that Autisim is the main one (even though he shows signs of more than one, and more of another on certain days).
It confused me at first because I have asked this question before, and I have come to the conclusion that no one (not even the doctors that have evaluated him) really knows the answer. My question has always been "How can you tell whether it is the Pervasive Developemental Disorder that is having him act out, or he is just being a kid and acting out because...he is a kid?" No one seems to know. They "good question" and that's it. No answer.
The reason I would like to know, is because I would like to know when he acts out whether I can disipline him ( I don't mean hit a child either, I mean to steer him in the right direction) or to treat the situation as the disorder. It's kind of difficult to determine which one he is displaying sometimes.
All I can say, is that whole meeting made my brain fried, so when child was asleep, I vegged out on Yuwie.com tonight.
-sigh- Who would of known that it takes so long to evalute one child?
